Dem Circle the CS is the new “Neilyo’d”

March 19th, 2009

Aratil posted an official top 10 for the American tournament realm.

Warlocks in the top 10: 8
Rogues in the top 10: 0

Small sample size is small, but maybe people will stop whining now.

(There’s a similar post for the Euro realms which actually has a few RMP teams on it)

Yeah, the US tourney realm is all about the DK/Paladin/Lock bandwagon. Actually surprised; whar hunters?! Shows how skewed damage is these days; the top comp doesn’t have an MS effect…

(In before UA nerf. Stacked dots with that kind of protection must be hell to heal over.)

I wonder what the numbers would look like if Ring of Valor was still in the map rotation…

Serennia posted a video1 yesterday of them playing shadowfrost/afflock/hpaladin on the TR, it does look pretty crazy and incredibly faceroll. Apparently a big part of its power is due to the comps that counter it (RMP and rogue teams in general I think) being fairly rare at high ratings. So it’s partly a metagame issue.

Anyway apparently it’s quite normal for the DK to outdamage everyone else (on both teams) put together. Balanced?

UA was single-target-only on the PTR for a bit, but I think they’ve reverted it now? I haven’t really been keeping up with the lock changes.

1 Serennia’s “Shadow Cleave” article is here, filefront link to the video (about 60mb iirc) is here.

Oh yeah, that makes sense; the RMP-skew of the Euro realm probably tips the balance against it.

The disparity between live and tourney realms is also interesting to note – I suspect there’s some truth in the cited article’s opinion that full, optimally gemmed Deadly PvP gear makes warlocks in particular a lot more popular. Baseline requirements of >800 resil and >25k hp are just harsh, but I guess healers don’t have it much better.

It was, very very briefly – not even patch noted, and reverted in the following build. UA and immolate are now mutually exclusive on the same target, but immolate is pretty low priority in pvp anyway (and the extra damage and crit on corruption/UA should make up for it).

    > -Warlocks not being able to use Demonic Portal unless it is in LoS come 3.1 will also hurt the survivability of warlocks in this comp when being trained.
Uh, wtf. Haven’t seen THAT one anywhere. Pretty sure I’d have noticed it, too (Dem Circle from the lock trainer basement in SW up through the floor cuts transit time to the dummies, okay <_<)
